Return Crew Day 20 – 27 February 2020
Robyn Wolstenholme
I want to start off by saying that I may be rudely interrupted by a fish on the line. Each time I write the blog I am find myself holding a fishing rod halfway through the blog. So let’s see what happens.
We have had strong south easterly winds since leaving Tristan and we often hit lulls in the wind leaving us with confused winds and 3kts of speed. There has been a very sudden decrease in temperature since Tristan da Cunha. The only time you will find a large majority of the crew in the cockpit is for food time otherwise the crew keep themselves occupied below deck as much as possible. With it being overcast yesterday most were either sleeping, reading, watching Netflix or eating their fresh supplies of snacks on the sly. An update on those push ups from the other day, I am still the only one that had reached that stage of boredom with 30 being the amount completed. Dinner was lentils, mixed veg and some form of canned meat from Brazil aka Brazilian dog food, and dessert was custard and peaches; all prepared by Ollie and Tony. We had a very rocky night with an increase in swell size and wind speed (reaching a high of 8kts speed). This morning the sun decided to make an appearance after the wind shifted 90⁰ and we were heading NNE. We then shook the reefs in the main sail and genoa to find the wind to continue sailing to course. This didn’t work as the wind kept changing so we turned on the engine to motor sail. We tacked to head back to course as the wind now allowed us to do so. We put the fishing lines back out after a couple days of rest and are anxiously waiting to hear a running reel. Lunch consisted of the usual sauces and spreads but Francois very kindly donated some salami he bought from the Island to Lunch (thanks bud). While in Tristan da Cunha we sourced some beef mince which is still untouched and shall remain until dinner tonight made by Rory and I. We have lost the game; can someone please help us find it?
Sadly there were no fish caught in the writing of this blog. See y’all in the next blog.
We have travelled 86nm since our last blog sent late last night.
Total: 2204nm
